sick

Early Wednesday morning Reed woke up (about 1 am) and was crying and running a fever. It kinda of scared me because he has never had a fever before. I figured it was because he had his immunizations the day before and they say that can make him run a fever sometimes. But I quickly knew something was wrong when the only way I could get him to go to sleep was by laying him on my chest and rocking him. I ended up taking him to the doctor yesteday and it turns out that he has the flu. It was a pretty rough day for all of us but this morning he woke up with no fever and very happy. Oh yeah, we also found out on Tuesday that he has a tooth coming in. It is one of his bottom front teeth. Then yesterday while he was at the doctors they said that the one next to it is coming in. He seems to be doing pretty well with it. He hasn't been fussy from his teeth hes just been drooling a lot.

Doctor's Visit

Today I took Reed to the doctor for his 6 month check-up. He weighed 22 lbs. and 11 oz. and he is 28 inches long. He is in the 98 percentile for his weight and height. He is very advanced for his age too. The doctor handed me a sheet that tells you what he should start learning to do between 6-9 months and he is already doing most of it. He also will be crawling any day now. He will get up on his hands and knees and start rocking back and forth like he 's just gonna take off but then he plops onto his belly and starts moving his hands and knees. It's actually pretty funny because it looks like he trying to swim across the carpet.

I also had to go to the doctor yesterday afternoon. All weekend my big toe on my left foot has been hurting me. I figured it was because I was wearing heels for most of the weekend. On Sunday night I was sitting on the couch and noticed that my toe was really red so I started messing with it and puss came out (I know everybody wanted to know that but I figured I had to say it so you could understand why I went to the doctor) . When this happened I knew something was wrong. It kind of scared me because I just got a pedicure and I have heard all these horror stories of people getting infections from nail salons not sterilizing there equipment properly. But luckily my doctor told me it was just an ingrown toenail that got infected so he put me on antibiotics and I have to go back and see him on Monday so he can take it out.

Weekend in Charleston

This weekend Graham and I went to Charleston to a friends wedding. It was so nice to to get away for the weekend to relax and have fun. The wedding was at St. Lukes Chapel on the MUSC campus and the reception was at the Cotton Docks at Boone Hall Plantation. The wedding was so beautiful, especially the bride, and the reception was a lot of fun. This was Graham and I's second trip to Charleston and definitly not our last. I also want to thank Alastair for letting us stay at his mom's house and also my sister for watching Reed for the weekend.

6 months old

Today Reed is 6 months old!!! I can't believe 6 months has already gone by. He has gotten so big and learned so much. This past week we discovered that he can role over in his pack-n-play so we had to take out the bassinet part. Then we found out he could role over in his crib when I went into his room while he was supposed to be taking a nap and I saw a baby head poking out of his crib. But the best thing he did this week was to start holding his bottle while he was eating. Now when I am in the middle of doing something I only have to stop long enough to make him a bottle. He has also become more mobile. Instead of trying to crawl now he has decided that if there is somewhere he wants to go he will just roll himself until he reaches where he wants to be. I know that there is still so much for him to learn. I just hope the next six months doesn't go as fast as the first.

(threw this one in there cause I thought it was cute)

Baby Proofing

In the past week Reed has really been trying to crawl. If you put him on the floor he will wiggle himself around and end up going in circles. He can also push himself backwards a little bit. I have a feeling that in the next couple of weeks he will crawling which means that anything and everything that he can reach will be pulled down or put in his mouth. So over the weekend Graham and I decided that is was time to start phase 1 of baby proofing the house. Now anyone that has ever been to our house knows that we have a tv stand that is open and I have learned from my sisters kids that this is not a smart thing to have around babies, because the first thing they want to do when they see it is pull every single dvd onto the floor and push all those shiny buttons on everything. So to fix this problem we got a new tv stand that has doors so that way all we have to do is put a latch around the knobs and he won't be able to get into anything. We also got a baby gate to put in the doorway between the dining room and the kitchen and let me tell you finding the right baby gate was not an easy task. Thank goodness I had my sister with me so she was able to tell me which ones worked and which ones didn't. Some of them were kind of obvious though, like the one where you opened it by stepping on something at the bottmom of the gate. Now how is that supposed to keep a baby out of something. All they have to do is put there hand on it and it will open. As for now that is all we have done for baby proofing the house. I know there is still a lot to do but baby proofing stuff is not cheap so the rest will have to wait for another time.

Transition

This past week has been really difficult for me. Last Monday I decided to let Reed start taking his naps in his pack-n-play because he is starting to outgrow his swing. He would sleep, but for only 30 to 45 min. at a time. Which anyone who is a parent knows that that is not long enough for a 5 month old baby. So for a week I had to take care of a very winy and tired baby. And to make matters worse, just when I thought I was going to get a break, Graham ended up having to go to a conference on Fri. and Sat. so I was all by myself this weekend. But I think we have had a breakthrough because on Sun. I decicded to try laying him in his crib for his nap time and both times he slept for at least an hour and a half and on Mon. he did good as well. Hopefully this will stick so I can start getting some housework done. Oh yeah! To all those single mothers out there, I praise you because I got a taste of what it would be like to be a single mother this weekend and it was pretty difficult.

Disappointing weekend, but also a good one

Sunday, Graham and I had some people over for the super bowl. We had a great time with everyone, especially when we all played wii (even though Alastair kicked my butt at tennis). The game was really good except for the part where the patriots lost. Graham and I haven't wanted to watch the news or espn because we really don't want to hear about how the giants defeated them. Well at least in another month baseball will be started and we can put the loss behind us.
