Baby Proofing

In the past week Reed has really been trying to crawl. If you put him on the floor he will wiggle himself around and end up going in circles. He can also push himself backwards a little bit. I have a feeling that in the next couple of weeks he will crawling which means that anything and everything that he can reach will be pulled down or put in his mouth. So over the weekend Graham and I decided that is was time to start phase 1 of baby proofing the house. Now anyone that has ever been to our house knows that we have a tv stand that is open and I have learned from my sisters kids that this is not a smart thing to have around babies, because the first thing they want to do when they see it is pull every single dvd onto the floor and push all those shiny buttons on everything. So to fix this problem we got a new tv stand that has doors so that way all we have to do is put a latch around the knobs and he won't be able to get into anything. We also got a baby gate to put in the doorway between the dining room and the kitchen and let me tell you finding the right baby gate was not an easy task. Thank goodness I had my sister with me so she was able to tell me which ones worked and which ones didn't. Some of them were kind of obvious though, like the one where you opened it by stepping on something at the bottmom of the gate. Now how is that supposed to keep a baby out of something. All they have to do is put there hand on it and it will open. As for now that is all we have done for baby proofing the house. I know there is still a lot to do but baby proofing stuff is not cheap so the rest will have to wait for another time.

You can test things on me. If I can't open them, you are good to go. On the other hand, your baby is probably smarter than me. Oh well, I tried.

Don't forget the plug covers. Let me know how the gate works out. We will HAVE to have one of those. He should start crawling really soon if he is pushing backwards.
